Independent travel to Disney World Florida – leave the Hotel behind.
Independent travel used to conjure up ideas of backpacking around unheard of destinations and staying in remote hostels, sharing your room, and the one functioning toilet with twelve complete strangers.
Well, not any more.
Orlando, Florida is still considered the worlds number one family vacation destination. Families too are enjoying the freedom and choice which independent travel now offers.
When we first started visiting Orlando, being huge Disney fans, we decided to stay at one of the Walt Disney World resort hotels. There were only the two of us, and we thought they were great, which they were. But they also proved very expensive. So the next time we travelled we decided to shop around, and stayed in nearby hotels. This certainly saved us money, but there was still something missing. And we knew exactly what it was. There was no space. We had nowhere to relax. Even though there were only two of us, we found the hotel room lacked any real space. Sure there were two beds, and a small writing table, but that was it. And it appears we were not the only ones. When we returned home, we started reading reports and we found that there were an increasing number of complaints made about hotels.
So, what are the alternatives? We searched and we found them, and they are all over Orlando and the Disney area. Condos and Townhouses. The Americans have known about Condos and Townhouses for years, and they have been enjoying the benefits of independent travel and saving money too. What is a Condo? A Condo is a full home, located in a building. The person who owns a Condo owns the entire home, and also has an interest in the amenities and facilities of the community.
We gave them a go; we decided to travel to Orlando with a couple of friends, four of us in total. We booked a three bedroom Condo located at Villas at Island Club. This was the best move we ever made. Our Condo was over 1400 sq foot in size. It was probably bigger than our real home. It had room to relax, space to chill out, and every possible facility you could think off. The Condo really changed our vacation experience. We were able to have breakfast together in the morning and plan our days activities. We were able to come home early and discuss the adventures of our day. We were able to meet other people around the communal pool. Our friends had their own space too, we didnt have to spend every minute of every day together, and thats why we are still friends.
So, is this independent travel? Yes, most definitely. Now, when you are planning your vacation, you dont have to select a package tour where you are told what hotel you are staying in, and what car you a being given. Now you can decide what size home you want. Then you get to look at the homes, to find out about their locations and the facilities they offer. You really can select the home you want. And real people own these homes, so they are really well looked after. Because real people own them, you get a personal touch from the start when you are making inquiries, right through until the end of your vacation.
This really is independent travel. You select you airline. You arrive right in the heart of your vacation location. You select your own vacation Condo or Townhouse, in your chosen location, with the facilities you want. Then you pick your car. Then you really start enjoying your vacations.
Give a Condo a try, why rent a single hotel room, when you can have an entire home??

Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands resort is the only resort that employs a full-time marine biologist to help visitors appreciate the underwater world of Fiji.
The Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort is an island resort, which means there are no televisions, phones, wireless internet access, etc.
If you need these things to have a great vacation then choose another resort.
On the other hand if you are happy in the company of friends and the wonderful people of Fiji, then this is the place for you.
The layout and the accommodation at the resort were both upscale and luxurious, much better than the photographs led us to believe.
We stayed in a garden bure, which was 30ft behind the Beach-front bure. The bure was large and breezy with an overhead fan. If you need air conditioning then you are in the wrong resort!! You will find a number of bug repellents in the bure, and you will need them for there is a mosquito problem.
The bathroom was quite spacious and well supplied with thick towels. There was a mini-bar and all sorts of drinks that were replenished daily. There were also a coffee and tea makers with different varieties of tea.
Id opt for a Garden Bure, if only because there isnt much of a beach at the beachfront, and it is a lot windier.
If you’re into beaches then go somewhere else.
The beach is poor, in fact all you will find are rock pools and mangroves, and significantly the small beach there is did not have any sunbathers on it. It is more of a sandy strip full of shells that leads into a coral tide area. This tide pools are great for studying local wild life. The best entry into the water is from the pier.
The staff were some of the best I’ve encountered and everyone was very friendly and accommodating.
The food was exquisite and gourmet with lots of fresh fish, probably best described as light island fare.
One could order a second helping of anything.
Everyday brought a new menu both at lunch and dinner.
There is a good wine list, but the wines by the glass were not so good.
There was a wide choice at breakfast.
There are two major shortfalls here, apart from the lack of beach in a Pacific Ocean Island paradise!!
The facilities for small children are superb, with the all encompassing Bula Club, however if your children are slightly older but not old enough to scuba dive, there are all sorts of rules and regulations for them to keep them out of adult vision and hearing.
The Childrens food was somewhat of the fast food variety, and I found it intolerable that children could not use the adult salt water pool at certain times.
In addition the scuba diving was not all it might have been.
Finally beware falling coconuts, you will be asked to sign a waiver clause in case you get hit!!

Imagine a world-class vacation resort with private residences, and Hilton Head Island’s Palmetto Dunes is the happy result. This resort borders the Atlantic Ocean and has even been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the Top Eleven Family Resorts!
Fifty four holes of championship golf wind through the Palmetto Dunes community in Hilton Head Island. Spread over three courses, golfers enjoy these challenging links designed by George Fazio, Arthur Hills, and Robert Trent Jones.
The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center boasts 25 courts. 23 are clay and two are prime Nova ProBounce; eight of the courts are lighted at night, and instructors offer private lessons and adult/junior clinics. Since 1975, Tennis Magazine has ranked the center among the top 50 in the nation.
Over 11 miles of connecting lagoon systems are great for kayaking through Palmetto Dunes. Guided tours are offered on a complementary basis by the community’s naturalist. These lagoons are also a great place to do a little fishing and crabbing!
Shelter Cove Harbour, bordering Palmetto Dunes to the west, offers canoeing, deep-sea fishing and sailing charters, and other water sports. The deepwater marina on Broad Creek is accessible from the Atlantic; its 15.5 acres contain 170 boat slips for 120-ft boats. Shopping, dining, entertainment and bike paths create many diversions for residents and vacationers alike.
Luxury Vacation Rentals and Resorts:
If you are planning a vacation for your family this summer and still are not sure where to go, I recommend going to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The first thing I would do is look to book one of the beautiful Hilton Head Island Vacation Home, Condo or Villa Rentals online. This luxury getaway is just forty five minutes away from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
Befitting a resort-residential combination community, Palmetto Dunes contains numerous upscale vacation facilities including the Marriott, Hilton and Disney resorts and several luxury hotels in Hilton Head Island.
Highly popular is the Hilton Head Disney Resort, which offers over 120 villas/studio units occupying 20 three-story buildings on its own island in Shelter Cove. The main resort building has a uniquely-shaped heated swimming pool, a waterslide, a wading pool, and a large whirlpool spa. It also has a shuffleboard court, horseshoe pits, and bocce games. Part of the island’s Disney Resort is its 13,000 square foot Beach House, covering 3.5 acres of oceanfront land, complete with a temperature-controlled, 50-foot-long swimming pool, a children’s soft-floored pool/play facility, arcade games, dressing rooms, covered parking, and a poolside bar.
The Marriott at the oceanfront has more than 500 recently restored guestrooms with a balcony for every accommodation and wireless high-speed Internet. Its popular pool deck features a picturesque two-part swimming pool.
The Hilton at Palmetto Dunes also has balconies attached to each room, as well as separate adult-only and family swimming pools, Hi-Speed Internet, and the Ocean Tides Spa.
Palmetto Dunes Real Estate:
Housing options in Palmetto Dunes include private real estate as well as houses and villas (“Villas” is the local term for condominiums.) that are marketed for rental. As a distinctive feature Palmetto Dunes has two security gates manned 24 hours a day. Access into the private residential areas, as well as the resort areas, is strictly controlled. Views include woods, golf course, lagoon, or oceanfront.
Home prices range from $600,000 to $6.5 million, making this plantation one of the island’s most exclusive. Villas are priced between $150,000 and $4.5 million. Complexes include Windsor Court, Captain’s Walk, Somerset, Hampton Place, Villamare and the Townhomes at South Shore, among others. A few home sites are available for sale in Palmetto Dunes. Lot prices range from the $400,000s upward, as high as $7 million for an oceanfront parcel.
Short History:
The Hilton Head Agricultural Company owned the only 1,900 acres of hunting land left on Hilton Head not already owned by developers Hack, Fraser, or McIntosh,. The tract finally sold in 1967 to the Palmetto Dunes Corporation (outbidding Fraser) for $1,000 per acre.
The Palmetto Dunes community was intended to outshine any previous island projects as a much more intense vacation experience. While other plantations were either major resort destinations or private residential areas, Palmetto Dunes’ founders incorporated both ideas by building a second internal gate separating its private residential sector from the ritzy vacation areas.
Later, in 1971, Phipps Land Company and Trans International Properties Corporation of New York together purchased and incorporated the resort. (PLC had earned a success as the first major financial provider for Sea Pines Plantation). Palmetto Dunes was subsequently sold to Greenwood Development Corporation (formed in 1978 by Jim Self of Greenwood Mills) in 1979. Ownership and management of the community was finally conveyed to the Palmetto Dunes Property Owners Association on January 1, 2006.
Whether you are looking to spend your vacation, to celebrate your wedding in Hilton Head Island or to live here, you will enjoy exclusive and preferred tennis, golf and amenity privileges unique to this piece of paradise called Palmetto Dunes – Hilton Head Island.

In The Top 10 Romantic Weekend Getaways Is Les Cascades Possibly The Most Romantic Hotel In Cape Town
We discovered Les Cascades, very much by chance at the end of a touring holiday in South Africa, never realising where it was or what it was, so it was just amazing to find what I would undoubtedly class as one of my top 10 romantic weekend getaways so close to the centre of Cape Town.
We were in fact looking for weekend honeymoon ideas, and my wife wanted to write about the top 10 romantic weekend getaways, so we were more than delighted to find Les Cascades , which is situated in the exclusive area of Bantry Bay on the Cape Town Atlantic coast, less than a ten minute drive from the city.
In its former life Les Cascades was a private house, hidden behind a huge wooden front door, but herein lies a beautiful boutique hotel. I hesitate to write about a romantic weekend getaway, when it is really only feasible for people in Southern Africa. Having said that I once went to Darjeeling for the weekend!!
Immediately you enter through the doors it is like another world, where uncannily you seem immediately to be able to forget the stresses you carried around with you outside. The initial impression of luxury, comfort, warmth, and the views from reception are reinforced by the sheer quality of the furnishings in the suite.
Apart from the opulence of the furnishings, a combination of dark woods, wool carpets, African art and artifacts, there is the small matter of hidden speakers, a large screen television, and fast internet connection for those info junkies who simply cant escape from the ties of the office!!
The bedroom is enormous, and there is yet another television, and a huge bed with fine cotton linen, and then the bathroom is a designers dream with a lovely big bath, and a large shower, with the inevitable but nevertheless welcome huge array of toiletries. The suite comes complete with a little kitchenette cleverly hidden away, and a private terrace all very impressive indeed.
What is so incredible about Les Cascades is how isolated, and away from it all you feel, which helps make it such a fantastic romantic weekend getaway, and yet it is effectively in suburbia!! The key to this is the fact it is on a hill so you feel as if you are on a mountain overlooking the ocean, and that enhances the feeling of privacy.
There are three pools, and elegant dining villa restaurant, which is just past the main pool, and is accessed via steps. The whole thing gives the impression of not so much a hotel as small village.
Without going into detail, dinner is superb, magnificent food, beautifully presented, and fine wines. The breakfast is in similar mode, the only possible complaint could be unforced overindulgence!!
Everywhere has superb sea views, the restaurant, the pool, but best of all in this incredible escape is the almost telepathic service which was unsurprisingly spot on.
Les Cascades is the best romantic weekend getawaym and one of Cape Towns most romantic hotels, and an ideal base for exploring both the city and the coastline.
